Cataract

Cataract surgery is recognized as the most commonly performed surgical procedure worldwide.

Cataract is a clouding of the natural lens of the eye which lies behind the iris and the pupil. It is the most common cause of blindness and is conventionally treated with surgery. Visual loss occurs because opacification of the lens obstructs light from passing and being focused on to the retina at the back of the eye.

Uma Eye Clinic is equipped with the latest and most advanced technology for cataract surgery. Our Chairman Dr. N.V. Arulmozhi Varman was the pioneer in this part of the country to introduce Phacoemulsification surgery for cataracts and the implantation of higher-end multifocal IOLs.

Femtosecond laser cataract surgery

The Femtosecond laser cataract surgery, also known as Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (LACS), represents the pinnacle of precision in cataract treatment. Unlike traditional manual cataract surgery, this advanced technique uses a computer-guided femtosecond laser to perform key steps of the procedure with unmatched accuracy.

Choosing the Right Lens for Your Lifestyle

Intraocular lenses (IOLs) replace your clouded natural lens during cataract surgery. Choosing the right IOL is crucial for achieving optimal visual outcomes and enhancing your quality of life.

Monofocal IOLsprovide clear vision at a single distance (usually distance), but patients will need glasses for near vision.

Toric IOLscorrect astigmatism along with distance vision, reducing dependence on glasses.

EDOF IOLsprovide an extended range of vision from distance to intermediate, ideal for computer users.

Trifocal IOLsoffer clear vision for distance, intermediate, and near, reducing the need for glasses in all situations.
