Uma Eye Clinic has to its name many firsts.

Dr Arulmozhi Varman, the Chairman of the centre, is a pioneer in this part of the country to introduce Phacoemulsification surgery for cataracts and the implantation of higher-end multifocal IOLs. The centre is one of the few to have implanted the most number of Multifocal IOLs in India.
Currently, Uma Eye Clinic has held on to the more advanced Extended Depth of Focus lenses which provide a seamless transition of vision from distance to intermediate and near with no difficulty in night driving.
We are also the first centre in Chennai to utilize the 3D Digital microscope for all patients undergoing intraocular surgeries. This provides enhanced depth and better resolution rendering a greater margin of safety for the patient as well as enhanced comfort for the patient undergoing the procedure. The integration of the Calisto with IOL MASTER and I TRACE further exemplifies our commitment to precision and predictability in cataract surgery, setting new benchmarks in postoperative visual acuity.
Uma Eye Clinic is also proud to state that the Femto Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery module – The Catalys from AMO/Johnson and Johnson delivers high accuracy of treatment along with precision and being completely bladeless while performing intraocular surgeries. This technology was the first in Tamil Nadu in 2016.
We have been at the forefront of delivering cutting-edge technologies of Laser Refractive procedures right from Intralase (femtosecond) blade-less LASIK and a flap-free, blade-free painless refractive procedure called SMILE (Zeiss Visumax 500) for correction of myopia and myopic astigmatism.
Currently, Uma eye clinic is equipped with the most advanced and rapid laser delivery system which is the SMILE Pro - Zeiss Visumax 800. This technology has been providing extremely accurate and consistent results which is approved by the US FDA for the correction of refractive errors.
We are also the first centre in Chennai to introduce laser correction for near vision powers (Presbyopia) namely the Presbyond. This has been made possible and efficient with the Femto LASIK platform of the Zeiss Mel 90 module. Over 75 patients have been enjoying the benefits of the procedure with extremely good results.
Uma Eye Clinic has also been the first centre in South India to introduce the drop-free laser glaucoma treatment – the Selective laser trabeculoplasty procedure. The procedure guarantees a reduction in intraocular pressure and avoids fluctuations in the pressure.
We are also the first centre in India to introduce the painless procedure of Cornea Collagen Cross Linking with Riboflavin which is the oxygenated accelerated Cornea Collagen Cross-Linking, with over a decade of treating patients with keratoconus, we have had excellent outcomes with the procedure.

Dr. Aadithreya Varman is a renowned Cataract and Refractive surgeon with expertise in advanced eye care. He is the Director of Uma Eye Clinic in Chennai, where he leads a team of professionals dedicated to delivering world-class ophthalmic treatments. Dr. Varman specializes in cataract surgery, refractive surgeries, and presbyopia correction.
Dr. Varman is known for his groundbreaking achievements in the field of ophthalmology. At the age of 28, he became one of the youngest surgeons to perform live cataract surgery at a prestigious ophthalmology meeting, showcasing his confidence and surgical proficiency. He is also the Head of the Phacoemulsification Training Program at Uma Eye Clinic, where he trains the next generation of ophthalmologists in advanced cataract surgery techniques.
