Uma Eye Clinic conducts various training programs. The Phaco & Lasik Training Program conducted here is one of the best programs available in India.
Dr. Arulmozhi Varman is a Master surgeon and experienced instructor having conducted over 150 phaco training programmes in India and abroad. He has over 25 years experience in the technology and has trained about 300 ophthalmologists at this centre.
The centre trains Ophthalmology residents of International Universities and established eye care practitioners from India and abroad. This is one of the very few training centres in the world to train with AMO Signature, AMO Sovereign Phacoemulsification system and the top end Lumera T Zeiss Microscope. The centre has tie ups with USA and UK Universities for training their Ophthalmology residents.
The centre provides hands on surgical experience. A beginner should aim for 50 procedures and an Advanced Trainee for 30. The Lasik Course aims at 10 procedures.

Phaco Course
Sovereign Phaco Machine under the top end Zeiss Microscope is used for training. This is one of the most advanced Phaco Sytems in the world. Also called “Cold Phaco” the machine is equipped with the latest ICE Software which results in clearer corneas on post op day one and minimal chances of corneal burn. This emulsifies even hard cataracts with minium Phaco energy making it easy to handle. Expert surgeons with experience of over 1000 Phaco procedures will guide you through the steps.
Lasik Course
Amadeus II microkeratome used for flap creation gives greater visibility and is one of the safest microkeratomes. The Zyoptix-Z Lasik Machine of Bausch and Lomb used for stromal ablationis the latest Lasik Machine and enables custom Lasik even for higher powers.

- Rhexis.
- Trenching
- Stop and Chop.
- Irrigation and Aspiration
- IOL Implantation
Evaluation
Constant evaluation during the course. Observation of DVD recordings of their own surgeries for correction.
Advanced Course will cover specialized skills like:
- The Direct Chop
- Bimanual Irrigation and Aspiration
- Implantation of Foldable Lenses (The charges for the Lenses are Extra)
- Usage of Capsular Tension Rings (The charges for the CTR is Extra)
