Dr.Arulmozhivarman is the master phaco trainer in India.
With more than 20 years of experience in the technology and
around 200 Ophthalmologists trained at this centre, this is
infact one of the best phaco training programmes in India. Dr.Varman
has also conducted more than 150 phaco training programmes in
India and Abroad.
The
Ophthalmologists trained in this centre range from Ophthalmology
residents in International Universities to established eye care
practitioners from India and abroad. The trainees are trained
with the Sovereign Phacoemulsification system. We are one among
the few centers in the world to use the Sovereign Phacoemulsifier
to train Ophthalmologists. We are also in talks with Universities
in USA and UK for tie up to train Ophthalmology residents in
basic surgical skills in our centre.
We offer Phaco and Lasik training opportunities at our Centre for aspiring Ophthalmologists. This section would give a detailed description of the training provided.
Courses available:
1) Basic Phaco Course - For Beginners.
2) Advanced Phaco Course- For Surgeons with prior experience in Phaco.

Duration of the Course:
The Phaco course duration ranges from 1 week to 8 weeks. The duration can be tailor made according to the needs of individual surgeons. The duration of the Lasik Course is one week.
The Course:
Introduction
Basics.
Evaluation.
Advanced Course.
Certification.
Introduction:
The inital one or two days will be a introductory course in which trainees would be taught the basic Phaco Dynamics and also will be made to observe surgeries performed by our surgeons at the centre.
Basics:
The surgeons would be taught the following steps in the inital few days.
1) Clear Corneal Entry.
2) Rhexis.
3) Trenching
4) Stop and Chop.
5) Irrigation and Aspiration.
6) IOL Implantation.
Evaluation: The surgeons would be evaluated in the midst of the course. They can also observe DVD recordings of their own surgeries and can correct mistakes.
Advanced Course: The final part of the training is the advanced course in which the surgeons are taught skills such as:
1) The Direct Chop.
2) Bimanual Irrigation and Aspiration.
3) Implantation of Foldable Lenses( The charges for the Lenses are Extra)
4) Usage of Capsular Tension Rings( The charges for the CTR is Extra)
Certification:
All the trainees recieve a signed Certificate at the end of the course. All surgeries would be hands on procedures on human eyes. The number of Phaco surgeries is not fixed, but we would advise a begginner to aim performing 50 procedures and an Advanced trainee to aim performing 30 procedures. The Lasik Course would consist of 10 eyes.
Instrumentation:
Phaco Course:
The trainees would perfom the course with the Souvereign Phaco Machine under the top end Zeiss Microscope. The Souvereign is one of the most advanced Phaco Systems currentely available and is also called the " Cold Phaco". Our Machine is equipped with the latest ICE Software, which means clearer corneas on post op day one and minimal chances of corneal wound burn.
The SouverignSystem enables even very hard cataracts to be emulsified with minimal Phaco energy. It would be a pleasure to operate on the Souvereign Machine with the guidance and assistance of our expert surgeons who have done thousands of Phaco procedures and have taught more than 200 International Surgeons so far. We are the only centre in India to train surgeons with such advanced technology.
Lasik Course:
The trainees would perform all Lasik surgeries with the Amadeus II microkeratome for flap creation and the Zyoptix Z-100 Lasik Machine of Bausch and Lomb for stromal ablation. The Amadeus is one of the safest microkeratomes devised so far, and gives better visibility to the operating surgeon. The Zyoptix is the latest Lasik Machine which enables custom Lasik for even higher powers. Travelling to India :
Our Centre is located in Chennai South India. Chennai is one of the four largest metropolitan cities in India . The International airport in Chennai is connected to most of the cities in the world and also to other cities in India . You can book your flights either to Chennai or take a connecting flight from Mumbai or Delhi to Chennai.

Chennai city offers premium accomodations at very economical rates. We would help you in making a advanced reservation for the accomodation. The approximate charges for accomodation per day are:
2 Star - 30 US $ per night with Breakfast.
3 Star- 50-70 US $ per night with Breakfast.
5 Star 150-200 US$ per night with Breakfast.
Trainees:
So far the centre has trained around 250 International Surgeons. The trainees come from countries as far as Spain , Greece , Turkey , Egypt and Vietnam . Our regular trainees come from USA , UK , Germany and France apart from trainees from India .
